Foods to Avoid Before Going to Sleep

This article will take 2 minute to read.

Eating healthy is a way of life. But what we eat and when we eat is also very important. For example, it should be avoided to have dinner right before going to bed because it will not allow your body to digest the food in the right way, which can cause problems such as acid reflux or heartburn. In addition, there are some foods that should definitely never be eaten before bedtime, so here are 5 Foods to Avoid Before Going to Sleep:

1. Spicy Food

Spicy food can cause heartburn, which is a burning feeling in the throat or chest that often happens after eating. Heartburn can make sleeping difficult and disrupt your sleep pattern.

2. Cold Drinks

You should avoid drinking cold drinks just before going to bed. It can disrupt your digestive process and cause indigestion, which may result in waking up at night. Besides, when you drink cold water, you will feel thirsty and may get up to drink more water again.

3. Meat

Meat is a rich source of protein and iron, which are both necessary for building healthy blood cells. It can also be a good source of B vitamins, zinc and vitamin D. Meat contains small amounts of vitamin B12 that are helpful in maintaining normal nerve tissue in the brain. However, large quantities of meat have been known to increase acidity levels in the body which can lead to poor sleep due to an excess buildup of acid during digestion (or heartburn).

4. Caffeine

Caffeine can be a very effective tool for dealing with sleep deprivation, but it’s still best to avoid consuming too much of it. It is a stimulant and can keep you awake at night. Research suggests that caffeine can disrupt your sleep cycle so much that you won’t feel fully rested even after eight hours of sleep. The most common side effect of overindulging in coffee is heartburn, which will leave you feeling agitated and uncomfortable until morning comes.

5. Water

If you want to ensure that your body gets enough water throughout the day so that you’ll be able to fall asleep easily at night then try drinking about half an ounce (or 1/4 cup) of water every hour or so throughout the day until bedtime arrives so that there’s enough time for all the liquid from those drinks go through your digestive system before going through into your bloodstream where it will be able to supply cells with oxygenated blood via capillaries located near them (and this is important).

Conclusion

I hope the above list helps you. It’s not easy to go cold turkey and stop eating before bedtime, but at least by avoiding these 5 things, you are more likely to sleep better.
